Bandh cripples life in east, organisers burn newspaper vehicle
Five eastern districts have been badly affected by the indefinite general strike called by the Limbuwan Mukti Morcha from Tuesday demanding autonomous federal state.
Market places, industries and educational institutional remain shut while vehicles, public and private, remain off the streets.
The Morcha called the strike in five eastern districts including Jhapa, Ilam, Taplejung and Pachthar demanding guarantee of federalism based on ethnicity with autonomy.
In the meantime, cadres of the Morcha burnt copies of the Kantipur daily and Damak based Purba Sandesh daily saying that the newspapers did not cover the news of their strike.
The Morcha cadres stopped the vans carrying Kantipur daily at Damak of Jhapa and Pathari of Morang districts and burnt the copies of Kantipur being sent for distribution from the publication's eastern regional office Biratnagar this morning, Kantipur FM stated.
The FM also quoted a Morcha official expressing regret on the untoward accident. The Morcha official said they did not intend to burn the newspapers. The Morcha cadres also vandalised the vehicle carrying the newspapers. nepalnews.com ia Aug 07 07
