Prachanda says party has no immediate plans to pull out of govt

A day after the representatives of the Maoists People’s Liberation Army (PLA) demanded that the party walk out of the government citing the latter's apathy towards the difficult living conditions in the PLA cantonments, the party chairman Prachanda Tuesday said it would not be a good idea for the party to do so just yet.

While answering the queries raised by party activists during the fifth plenum of the party, Prachanda said, “After much deliberation the party has reached to the conclusion to remain in the government.”

What the party can achieve by remaining in the government and the interim parliament can’t be achieved by remaining outside it, he further said.

Prachanda said as the "struggle is on from both the government and the parliament", the party has no immediate plans to pull out of the government.

He also made it clear that the party still believed that Constituent Assembly elections would take place in the in the stipulated time.

During the discussion at the ongoing plenum party representatives hailed the proposal of leftist unity (put forward by CPN-UML) and said it was ‘important” for establishing republican set up in the country, sources said. Prachanda also assured the party would take initiatives for the leftist unity that has been proposed. nepalnews.com ag Aug 07 07
