Police bust criminal group involved in abduction
Police busted a group involved in a number of abductions and other crimes in the capital city, after it managed to arrest two main persons behind it from a hotel in Chettrapati in the old part of Kathmandu Wednesday morning
Police arrested the duo - Ram Kaji Rana and Samir Lama - from room no. 202 of Peace Night Hotel in Chettrapati where they had been hiding Jit Bahadur Kumar Shrestha of Kavre after abducting him Tuesday night from his residence in Samakushi of Kathmandu. Chandra Lama, who worked in the hotel as a guide to people coming over to stay there, has also been arrested for helping the duo in carrying out the abduction.
The abductors had demanded Rs 300,000 in ransom money from Shrestha's family for his release.
After the case was registered at the police station, a team from Sorhakhutte Police Station had reached the hotel on a tip off provided by an informer and managed to set free Shrestha from the clutches of his abductors at around 4:30 am in the morning, reports said.
Ramesh Lama a.k.a. 'Chinese' the main mastermind behind the abduction of Shrestha, however, is absconding, police said.
Sorhakhutte Police Station Inspector Tapan Dahal said that the group had been involved in similar abduction cases and other criminal activities in the capital before too. nepalnews.com ag Aug 08 07
