India provides Rs 27.8 million to Sindhuli school

India has provided Rs 27.8 million grant assistance to a high school in Sindhuli district.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed Wednesday by the Embassy of India with the District Development Committee, Sindhuli and Shree Chandeshwari Secondary School in Dadhi Guranse VDC for providing the grant assistance for construction of the school’s new building, boundary wall and provision of furniture and equipment, under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Shree Chandeshwari Secondary School was established in 1960 as primary school and upgraded to secondary level in 1993. The school is presently running classes for about 800 students from a small building. The new infrastructure being constructed with the assistance of the Government of India would provide the school with much needed space for its growing number of students and help the school in upgrading to 10+2 level, a press release issued by the Indian embassy said.

Under the MOU, an oversight committee consisting of representatives from the school management committee, DDC and District Education Office will be constituted to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

This is the second development project undertaken by the Government of India in District Sindhuli in recent months under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. A project for construction of three health posts in the VDCs of Baseswor, Kusheswor Dumja and Bhuwaneswori of Sindhuli is already under implementation with grant assistance of Rs. 5.65 million from India. nepalnews.com mk Aug 08 07
