PM holds talks with Deuba over Congress unity

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala held a meeting with Nepali Congress – Democratic president Sher Bahadur Deuba to discuss the unification of Congress party.

Deuba reached PM's official residence of Baluwatar on Wednesday evening to hold talks with PM Koirala, who is also the president of Nepali Congress (NC).

Following the meeting, party sources said that the chances of quick unification have increased.

Both the parties have formed taskforces to expedite the unification process. The members of taskforces, too, were said to be present during Koirala--Deuba talks.

Reports have quoted NC-Democratic leader Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat as saying that the meeting was held to discuss the points, which the taskforces could not resolve by themselves. He said the dialogue has pushed the two parties closer towards unification.

The meeting came two days after PM Koirala promised to expedite the unification process when talking to reporters in Biratnagar. nepalnews.com sd Aug 08 07
