Pro-Maoist students thrash students close to Congress in Thapathali campus
A group of students affiliated with the Maoists thrashed Nepal Student Union (NSU) activists with iron rods, cricket bats and sticks in Thapathali campus, Monday morning injuring half a dozen students as well as campus chief.
Campus chief Dhana Prasad Poudel and Free Student Union (FSU) chief Sudip Sharma were injured in the attack. Likewise, NSU campus unit chief Santosh Dahal was also injured. The injured were taken to Bir Hospital and Model Hospital.
According to reports, the pro-Maoist students thrashed NSU students because the latter had handed over weapons belonging to them to the police a few days ago. The weapons were discovered within campus premises.
Meanwhile, enraged by the attack, NSU has launched agitation in all campuses. Due to its agitation, traffic movement has been blocked in Thapathali area.
Pradeep Poudel, president of NSU, said, "They have lost the battle of ideology and now are resorting to violence. If the administration does not take action, we will take action against them." nepalnews.com sd Aug 13 07
