Armed Police to oversee security in refugee camps

Armed Police Force (APF) posts are soon going to be established in each of the refugee camps in Jhapa of eastern Nepal for security reasons, Kantipur Daily reported.

This decision to this effect was taken by the local administration on the request of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) following increase in violence in the Bhutanese refugee camps of late over the issue of third country resettlement

A security source told the daily that the local administration has already asked the UNHCR to make arrangements for sheltering the APF personnel after their deployment. It is said that each camp would be manned by at least 25 APF personnel.

Chief district Officer Jaya Mukunda Khanal confirmed that the APF personnel are being deployed for the security of the camp. “APF will set up its posts in each camp within one-and-a-half months,” he said. nepalnews.com ag Aug 14 07
