NRNA welcomes endorsement of NRN bill
The Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has welcomed the endorsement of the NRN bill by the Interim Legislature legalising the NRNs' investment in Nepal.
In a statement, NRNA president Dr Upendra Mahato said endorsement of the bill has proved the consideration of the government the necessity to involve NRNs in national development.
He however, raised objection on a few provisions in the bill including the period that Nepali citizens need to stay abroad to receive the NRN status. Mahato also said it was unfortunate that the bill does not include Nepali students pursuing their careers abroad, who actually have the potentiality for the nation's development.
He urged the government to make provisions for insurance to those going abroad for employment at the time of preparing the regulations.
He said the law has not adequately addressed the demands raised by Nepalis having acquired foreign nationality. NRNA had demanded dual citizenship to such persons, which the new law does not address. nepalnews.com ia Aug 16 07
