Now KMC to “collect garbage”
Nearly two weeks after heaps of uncollected garbage along the streets and major thoroughfares of Kathmandu made life in the city unbearable, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to take the matters into its own hands. From Friday onwards the municipality would collect the garbage that has been lying uncollected due to the strike of the private sector garbage collectors and also ‘manage’ it on its own.
Kathmandu has been stinking with uncollected garbage after the municipality prevented private sector garbage collectors from throwing the garbage at the transformer station in Teku from August 7.
“It is hereby notified that the municipality would collect garbage and do all the necessary things up to its final discarding stage through its own manpower and resources,” KMC’s Dinesh Kumar Thapalia said in a statement Thursday.
The KMC also informed through the statement that it would manage the garbage until it issues a public notice on involving local communities, organisation and private sector in garbage management and formally hands over its responsibility to them. nepalnews.com ag Aug 17 07
