Rival NSU and ANNISU-R to hold talks Friday
An informal talk is going to take place between Nepal Students Union (NSU) and pro-Maoist All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union –Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) Friday to allay the rising tension between them, reports Kantipur daily.
The meeting between the heads of the two student bodies is going to be held at the central office of ANNISU-United in Dilibazaar. The initiative for the talks was taken by ANNISU-United chairman Jivan Gautam and NSU student leader Gagan Thapa .
The daily said that ANNISU-R chairman Lekh Nath Neupane, general secretary Himal Sharma and NSU chairman Pradip Paudel, Gagan Thapa, among others, would attend the meeting. On Thursday there had been informal talks between the student leaders of the two sides at the ANNISU-United’s office for about two hours in order to reduce the tension between them. ANNISU-R’s Himal Sharma said that during the talks NSU president Poudel expressed his sadness over the pelting of stones and vandalism at the pro-Maoist student’s office and the burning of its party flag.
President Neupane told Kantipur that in the dialogue that is going to be held today there would be review of past incidents and some self-criticism. “Minor differences and mis-understanding had a great impact on (country’s) politics,” he told the daily, “we would resolve our differences and convey a similar message to the people.” He said they would also request the government for treatment of the injured student leaders and activists of both organisations and release of those who are arrested. nepalnews.com ag Aug 17 07
