Media house owners say problems occured due to 'communication gap'

The media house owners have said the recent disturbances seen in various media houses, including the APCA House, Gorkhapatra daily and HBC FM, were due the communication gap between the workers and the management.

Speaking at an interaction organised by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) in the capital on Friday Kailash Shiroiya, first vice-president of Media Society and managing director of the Kantipur Publication assured that his organisation would implement the Working Journalists Act, recently passed by the legislature parliament.

Robin Lama of APCA House, Nepal TV chairman Rishi Raj Baral and others were of the opinion that journalists should not be terminated from their job based on their political beliefs.

Maoist trade union president and member of the interim parliament Salikram Jamarkattel claimed that the movement was initiated by the workers and that it has no relation with the Maoist party.

FNJ president Bishnu Nisthuri urged all to resolve the row through dialogue and added that media should be allowed to remain free from politics and all forms of discrimination.

"FNJ has exercised a lot to get working journalists act and believes that no one will oppose its implementation," added Nisthuri.

The publication of Annapurna Post and The Himalayan Times were halted for several days due to the strike called by Maoist affiliated trade union. Similarly, the HBC FM has been pulled off air since last 10 days. nepalnews.com ia Aug 17 07
