Govt decides to disclose report of Ojha Commission
A meeting of the Council of Misters on Tuesday decided to publicise the report of the Ojha Commission formed to probe the excesses of the now-defunct Royal Commission for Control of Corruption (RCCC).
According to communication minister and government spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the cabinet has given the authority to the Home Ministry to make public the report and initiate action against those involved in harassing political leaders under the cover of RCCC.
Led by Bhakta Bahadur Koirala, a former bureaucrat, the RCCC had taken action against a number of political leaders including former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Amidst growing criticism against its arbitrary tactics the all-powerful ‘anti-corruption’ panel was dissolved after a Supreme Court order.
The new government established after Janandolan-II had formed the commission headed by former Supreme Court judge Madhav Prasad Ojha to probe the excess of the RCCC.
Meanwhile, today’s cabinet meeting approved 81 names recommended for the vacant posts of secretaries. Tomorrow’s cabinet meeting will pick up 21 names out of these names for the vacant posts. nepalnews.com mk Aug 21 07
