Roaming charge on NT's mobile phones to be scrapped
The government has decided to waive roaming charges on cellular phone service across the country from 18 September.
A cabinet meeting Tuesday took the decision. Communication minister and government spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said roaming charges on all types of mobile phones provided by Nepal Telecom, the government-owned telecommunication giant, would be scrapped.
Mero Mobile, a private sector cellular phone service, has been providing free roaming service for some time.
The Environment, Communication and Technology Committee of the legislature committee had on Sunday directed the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA), which is a regulatory body, to scrap roaming charge on mobile telephony and make available STD service at the same rate as local calls. nepalnews.com mk Aug 21 07
