US trying to save monarchy, India trying to take advantage from Nepal’s situation: CPN-UML
Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has accused the United States of America and India of trying to give continuity to the institution of monarchy by taking advantage of the transitional period prevailing in Nepal, Kantipur Daily reports.
The party has reached the conclusion that America is trying to save monarchy, India is seeking to take as much advantage as possible from the transitional period in the country and China has started to review its traditional relationship with Nepal. The largest communist party of Nepal had reached this conclusion in its report titled “Present Complexities and Our Responsibility’ prepared to keep its party activists from all over the country abreast on the current politics and constituent assembly election.
The party’s ‘school’ department prepared this report for its ‘internal consumption’. The department’s head and standing committee member Yuwa Raj Gyawali said that the party reached the conclusion on the basis of increased interest shown by the foreign country’s on Nepal’s politics, various events and remarks made on Nepal.
“Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is favoring ceremonial king because behind it there lays a great interest of the international power centers,” he told Kantipur.
“It is our understanding that at this juncture when there is great uncertainty in Nepal owing to the transition it is going through, India would do all it can to serve its own interest in Nepal. India’s policy at the moment is to take as much advantage as possible,” the report states.
The report further states that India has basically come up with three main strategies – Bring Nepal under its “security umbrella”, control Nepal’s natural resources and market. According to the report, India’s Nepal policy is based on its strategy of extending its international influence by keeping the neighboring countries under its hegemony.
CPN-UML is also of the assertion that the US is of the strategy to “watch India and encircle the rising super power China through its influence in Nepal”.
The report also states that the US is trying to ascertain the heir apparent of its choice in Nepali Congress in order to maintain its influence in Nepali politics.
The reports further states, “America doesn’t want to see red unity and so it always strives to unite the bourgeoisie forces. It sees to it that Congress supports one or the other form of monarchy. This is because of its belief that only by doing so can the anti-communist forces be united. CPN-UML also claimed in the report that in the garb of repatriating the Bhutanese refugees into its country it is just trying to open the “diplomatic channel” to take the Tibetan refugees living in Nepal to its country. nepalnews.com ag Aug 23 07
