CPN-UML taking suggestions for its election declaration

The Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has started to take suggestions so that it can make necessary improvements on the preliminary draft of the party’s election declaration.

According to Jhala Nath Khanal, coordinator of the Declaration Drafting Committee, by condensing the suggestions coming from all five development regions, the declaration would be given final shape on the last week of Bhadra month.

“We have started a campaign of collecting suggestions by reaching all areas and major places,” Khanal told Kantipur Daily after arriving in Pokhara in the course of the campaign and added, “Our aim is to make public the declaration by the end of Bhadra month.”

The committee had on Thursday taken suggestions from various sectors and people involved in various professions and occupations. CPN-UML has taken suggestions from political activists of other parties including intellectuals, businessmen, health workers, civil society, media persons and various ethnic communities.

Those giving suggestions had stressed on a factual and objective declaration rather than a populist one as in the past. Khanal informed that the declaration would be prepared by putting the mandate of the “April revolution” at the center with abolishment of monarchy, establishment of democratic republic, restructuring of the state, ending all the social discrimination, and building a sovereign, integrated and independent Nepal as the main aim.

More than any other party, CPN-UML is seen to be more actively engaged in preparing an election declaration and other planning/publicity campaigns for the election. nepalnews.com ag Aug 24 07
