Parliament session prorogued
Despite opposition by the Maoists, the budgetary session of the parliament has been prorogued on Friday.
Speaker Subas Nemwang read out a letter notifying of the ending of the session sent by the Office of the Prime Minister.
Earlier, leaders of the parties had differed over the issue of whether proroguing (ending) or suspending the House session.
While chief whips of Nepali Congress (NC) and Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) Ananda Prasad Dhungana and Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, respectively, said that the session should be ended so that lawmakers can venture out to districts for door-to-door campaigning of election, Maoist chief whip Dinanath Sharma said the session should only be temporarily suspended.
Maoists have said that ending of the session could facilitate the regressive elements who want to derail the election.
Despite the opposition by Maoists and People's Front, Speaker announced the ending of the session after he allowed MPs to speak.
Speaker termed the current budget session as historic and important. He said the House had passed 23 bills including the ones related with the Constituent Assembly election. nepalnews.com sd Aug 24 07
