Dahal continues fast, Indian envoy visits him
As his fast-unto-death has gone for two weeks, the health of Birendra
Dahal, manager of the Radio HBC FM, has sharply deteriorated.
On Saturday, a team of doctors from Nepal Medical Association visited
and checked his health. Expressing their solidarity with Dahal's
agitation, the association has urged all concerned to take initiatives
to end the fast as it was taking a heavy toll on his health.
Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee also visited Dahal
and expressed solidarity with his demands for full press freedom.
Dahal is staying within the premises of the Nepal Press Council. He
has said that his agitation is guided by his conviction for the "full
press freedom."
He has asked the political parties represented in the parliament,
along with their sister organisations, to issue a written commitment
to respect press freedom. nepalnews.com sd Aug 26 07
