Panel decides to nationalise five more palaces, eight jungles owned by King
The ministerial committee formed to nationalise the King's property has decided to register three more palaces and eight jungles owned by the royal family in government's name.
A meeting of the five-member committee held at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Singha Durbar on Sunday came up with a decision. The palaces that are being nationalised are Nagarjun and Gokarna palaces in Kathmandu, Ratna Mandi at Lakeside, Pokhara, Diyalo Bangala in Chitwan and Kanti-Ishwori palace in Hetauda.
King Gyanendra is currently living at Nagarjun palace with his family. He had moved there on Friday, a day after the cabinet approved the ministerial committee's recommendation to nationalise seven royal palaces including the Narayanhiti palace.
The nationalisation process will formally start after an approval from the Council of Ministers.
The committee headed by Home Minister Krishna Sitaula, which has been given 15 days to complete the process of nationalisation of King's property and set up a trust to manage the property of late King Birendra and his family. nepalnews.com mk Aug 26 07
