PAC directs NAC to bring aircraft on lease
Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday directed Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), which has been plagued with problems with its two B757 jet aircraft, to immediately bring one aircraft on lease for the national flag carrier to prevent flight cancellations by the start of the peak tourist season beginning mid-September.
The committee issued a five-point directive which includes finding out officials responsible for the current mess in NAC and taking action against them within a month.
“NAC should bring one aircraft on lease to maintain flight schedules in view of the upcoming peak tourist season,” said PAC chairman Pari Thapa reading out the five-point directive.
The committee concluded that the present management cannot run the corporation and ordered the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to take necessary steps for making management at Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) “professional and efficient”.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prithvi Subba Gurung, who also participated in the PAC meeting, said the management at NAC should be “restructured” as the current management has failed to operate the corporation smoothly. nepalnews.com ag Aug 28 07
