Yadav predicts Congress unification will materialise in two-three days
A senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) has predicted that the unification of the NC and NC-Democratic will materialise in a matter of two-three days.
"Most issues have been already settled," claimed Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, co-general secretary of NC. He added that the meeting of the central committee of NC slated for Thursday morning could be crucial towards formalising the unification.
Talking to Kantipur TV, Tuesday evening, Yadav said that the issue of distribution of top leadership has already been settled. "There is no dispute in continuing making Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala as the president of the unified party. Our founding member and senior leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai comes second in the party hierarchy," he said, adding that Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of NC-D, will come third in line followed by Sushil Koirala, who will be made acting president of the unified Congress.
Dr. Yadav said that since the united central committee will be huge with around 70 members, there is a proposal to form a smaller central executive committee.
He claimed that the unification has been obstructed by the continuing demands for positions by leaders of NC-Democratic.
Dr. Yadav conceded that time was running short for the Congress parties to proceed with election campaign. He said the parties are under tremendous pressure from the general people who want to see the six-decades-old party unified.
