Four killed in Birgunj during crossfire with police

Four armed persons have been killed on Wednesday morning during the crossfire with police in Birgunj of Parsa district.

According to reports, the police and the armed persons, whom police believe to be looters, exchanged fire at around 1:00 a.m. near Sirsiya Khola of Birgunj ward no. 4. The police team was on patrol.

Police said they have recovered three guns, one pistol and 12 bullets. The deceased have not been identified. Police suspect the armed persons could be members of dreaded gang led by Indian criminal Munna Singh.

Robbery and looting in Birgunj have been rampant for last one year. Several businessmen were shot dead and many others threatened by armed gangs. The government has deployed special security team to the border industrial town to control the situation. nepalnews.com ia Aug 29 07
