Additional 30,000 security men required for election security: Home Minister
Home Minister Krishna Prasad Situala has said the government is doing serious homework for devising security plans for the constituent assembly election.
Speaking at a programme in the capital Thursday, Situala informed the government was planning to recruit security personnel on a short-term contract, for security in the election. According to him, an additional 30,000 security officials need to be added for security during election.
Speaking at the same programme, Nepali Congress (Democratic) leader and former Home Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka suggested that the government consider deploying the Nepal Army rather than recruiting security personnel on a short-term contract basis. He said this would not only save costs but also means effective security.
Another speaker at the programme, Maoist lawmaker and deputy commander of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Janardan Sharma 'Prabhakar', said his party was against the idea of army mobilisation for election security.
“But, if there is a decision to deploy the Nepal Army, the PLA should also be deployed for security in the elections,” he added. nepalnews.com mk Aug 30 07
