Japan to provide assistance for maintenance of rural road

The Government of Japan has pledged a grant assistance of NPR 5,316,000 to Nepal under its Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme this year.

The assistance would be extended to the Committee for Reconstruction and Maintenance of Phedi–Kotyang–Ghumaunechaur Rural Road for the implementation of the Project for Improvement of Phedi–Kotyang-Ghumaunechaur road in Kavrepalanchok district, a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu said Friday.

A agreement to this effect was signed and exchanged on Friday between Japanese ambassador to Nepal Tsutomu Hiraoka and Krishna Bahadur Tamang, Chairman of the Committee for Reconstruction and Maintenance of Phedi–Kotyang–Ghumaunechaur Rural Road, Kavrepalanchok.

Speaking at the ceremony, ambassador Hiraoka mentioned that Japan’s assistance to Nepal for the achievement of sustainable development through poverty alleviation, includes infrastructure development. He further explained that the Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas Road (Sindhuli Road) is another major cooperation extended to Nepal under the Grant Aid of the Government of Japan.

Anaikot, Jaisithok, and Mahadevsthan VDCs are located in the northern part of Kavrepalanchok District. Though the VDCs are situated near the Arniko Highway, the condition of the access road is unsuitable for transportation. As a result, people are facing difficulties in their daily life, for example, in receiving medical treatment on time and carrying their agro-products to markets.

The Grant will be utilised for the improvement of a 10 Km road linking the above three VDCs. Construction work will be carried out with the participation of local people, and will benefit approximately 18,000 people residing along the road, the release said. nepalnews.com ag Aug 31 07
