Postal service disrupted as employees go on strike

Postal services have came to a complete halt with the postal employees announcing closure of all the post offices around the country from Friday to protest government’s 'indifference' towards fulfilling their demands.

According to Subodh Devkota of Nepal Civil Servants Association, some 20,000 employees working in post offices across the country have halted works calling for the fulfillment of their demands which includes improvement in their working conditions and timely pay hikes, among others.

Devkota said they were compelled to take the drastic measure of closing down all the post offices as the government continued to turn a deaf ear to their demands despite their protests over the last one month. He said they would be forced to announce indefinite strike in all post offices if the government’s attitude remains unchanged.

People especially from the rural parts of Nepal who rely on postal services to get in touch with their near and dear ones both inside the country and abroad have been affected the most due to the strike in post offices. nepalnews.com ag Aug 31 07
