NC criticises Maoist acts; Deuba says elements in NC delayed unification
Nepali Congress (NC) leaders participating at the party's central working committee meeting, held to formulate strategies for the upcoming constituent assembly elections, have came down heavily against the Maoists accusing them of not abiding by the agreements reached earlier.
In a statement after the meeting, the NC said the Maoists had been violating their commitments to return all the lands and properties confiscated by them during insurgency.
Expressing concern over the grievances of the internally displaced people (IDP), the NC has urged the Maoist leadership to create environment for the return of IDPs to their original places and return their seized properties before the polls.
Furthermore, they drew attention of the government about the unimproved security situation in Terai districts and stop the ethnic tension.
However, there wasn't serious discussion on the issue of party unification during the meeting. Party president Girija Prasad Koirala has been given the authority to finalise the unification deal.
Meanwhile, president of NC (Democratic) Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed the party unification was delayed by some elements in the NC, who do not want unity to materialise.
Speaking at a programme in the capital on Friday, Deuba said all the responsibilities of the party unification had been entrusted to PM Koirala. nepalnews.com ia Aug 31 07
