Teacher arrested on charge of girl trafficking

Police have arrested a teacher in Tanahun district on charge of selling his own student to brothel owners in India.

Sitaram Poudel, a teacher at the Shantibarsa Boarding School at Chapaghat was arrested from Byas Municipality, Tanahun, on Thursday, reports said. Police said he has been accused of selling a teenage girl studying at his school for 70,000 rupees.

The girl was rescued with the help of Gorakhpur-based Nepali, Raju Shrestha of Tanahun district.

Poudel allegedly lured the girl to go with him for a tour to the Indian hill town of Darjeeling, but took her to Gorakhpur and sold her to brothel owners. Local people had filed a complaint against him at the local police station after the girl went missing for several days.
