Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana today said his party would launch a protest movement against the seven-party alliance if they declared republic from the interim parliament.
“The seven parties do not have the right to declare republic now. RPP will take to streets against any action that infringes the right of Nepali people,” Rana said speaking at the Reporters Club. The RPP’s street movement, according to him, will be directed against seven-party dictatorship.
“In the name of finding political consensus they [parties] are fighting over their share in the government,” he said.
Arguing that the motion on republic passed by the special parliament session was against the spirit of interim constitution, the RPP chief said the seven parties had no right to even mention ‘republic’ in the interim statute.
He emphasised that constituent assembly election must take place by Chaitra (March-April), but expressed doubt over the SPA’s intention to conduct polls within this deadline.
Rana also revealed that the RPP was in favour of fully proportional election system. nepalnews.com mk Dec 21 07
