Eight party meeting ends inconclusively; will be held again on Wednesday
The meeting of the eight party leaders at Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar ended inconclusively on Tuesday evening with leaders agreeing to meet again on Wednesday to settle the issues related with addressing the demands raised by Madhesi people.
Emerging out of the six-hour-long meeting, Nepali Congress general secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said that the parties have already reached understanding on most issues. "Now only the technical matters remain and we need to give the understanding a textual form," he told reporters.
Dismissing that NC was posing obstacle in the resolution of Terai problem, Poudel said the party had already made its position clear regarding federalism and electoral system.
Major demands of Madhesi community include federal system, reconstitution of constituencies based on population and adoption of proportional representation-based electoral system.
"The parties are yet to reach agreement on the exact modality of electoral system to include all communities and regions," added Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, central leader of NC-Democratic.
The meeting of the eight parties will again be held at around 1 pm on Wednesday, say reports. nepalnews.com sd Feb 06 07
