Leaders gather at Baluwatar to resume discussions over Terai demands
The leaders of eight parties have gathered at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday afternoon to resume their discussion over Terai demands.
Although the meeting was slated to start at 1 pm, the prolonged central committee meeting of the UML is said to have caused the delay in the start of the formal discussions in Baluwatar. The meeting of the top leaders of the eight parties is expected to reach understanding on the issue of electoral system to be adopted for the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
The meeting had ended inconclusively on Tuesday evening after the leaders failed to concur on the issue of Proportional Representation-based electoral system and population-based reconstitution of electoral constituencies – two of the major demands of protesters in Terai.
Other demands of Terai protesters like federal restructuring of state and ensuring Madhesi representation in all organs of the state have already been agreed upon by the eight parties. nepalnews.com sd Feb 07 07
