Capital city stinks as garbage remains unpicked for days
Garbage is piling up in the streets and chowks of Kathmandu with local residents around the dumping site in Sisdol, Nuwakot district, refusing to allow Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) trucks to dispose the waste.
The municipal authority has not been able to pick up garbage since last five days as the Sisdol locals have obstructed trucks from reaching the landfill site, saying that their longstanding demands like a hospital in the area, highway, campus and employment to the locals have not been fulfilled.
In the past, the Sisdol locals have time and again obstructed the dumping of garbage in the area.
To make the situation worse, workers at the KMC branch office in Teku have gone on strike demanding better facilities. Municipal officials said talks going on at the Local Development Ministry to end the protest of Sisdol locals and the municipal workers could not arrive at a conclusion.
