Cabinet rejects promotion of erring NA General
The cabinet meeting on Friday refused to promote Nepali Army (NA) Brigadier General Dilip SJB Rana who had recently made nasty remarks about the possibility of mobilisation of army to control Terai unrest.
The cabinet has already asked the NA to take proper action against Rana, who was immediately summoned by the army headquarters from Pokhara where he had delivered the controversial remarks.
NA chief General Rukmangad Katawal had assured the parliament that Rana had spoken without the consent of the army headquarters and vowed to take proper action against him.
Rana was in the list of army officers to be promoted to the rank of Major General before he made those remarks. However, given the widespread condemnation against his political remarks, Rana now faces action rather than promotion. nepalnews.com sd Feb 17 07
