Eight party leaders meeting underway

The meeting of the top leaders of eight political parties is underway at Baluwatar this morning to discuss amending interim constitution.

The meeting is taking place to finalise the issues related with the demands of Madhesis and Janajatis and incorporating them along with the promises made by the Prime Minister on his February 7 address in the interim constitution through necessary amendment.

The meeting is discussing the details about finalising the amendment proposal. After the eight party leaders finalise the issue, the cabinet will approve it and present it to the interim parliament for formal amendment.

The cabinet could present the proposal at the parliament as early as today. According to UML leader Jhal Nath Khanal, the parties will try and finalise the amendment proposal today itself.

He said some issues like deciding the increment of electoral constituencies based on population; inserting provision of electing/removing Prime Minister by the two-third members of parliament; and inserting provision about opposition party remain to be settled. nepalnews.com sd Feb 18 07
