Muslims want their representation ensured
The minority Muslim community has also asked for ensuring their rights in the new Nepal.
At a program organised by Nepal Intellectual Muslim Association, Saturday, the Muslim community leaders urged to ensure the access of minorities to materials, resources, opportunities and power.
According to Mohammad Ijaharul Haq Mikarani, president of the association, the issues of religious minorities were not being highlighted in the country as much as those of Madhesis, Dalit, women and indigenous nationalities.
He added that Muslims' issues were not being taken up seriously even though they had taken part and sacrificed their lives in the people's movement and recent Terai agitation.
The association has demanded formation of a National Muslim Commission, government recognition of Madarassas, proportional representation of Muslim community in all sectors of state, among others. nepalnews.com sd Feb 25 07
