Government urges protestors to stay away from Singha Durbar, Baluwatar

The Home Ministry has appealed to protestors to stay away from the vicinity of Singha Durbar and Baluwatar.

Stating that these two areas have been declared as prohibited zones, the Ministry has urged protestors to understand the government's position.

Singha Durbar houses the central secretariat of the government whereas Baluwatar is home to the official residence of the Prime Minister.

In last few days, police had resorted to baton charge and mass arrests to chase away the protestors from these venues triggering fierce condemnations from the human rights community.

Police had arrested dozens of civil society activists from Baluwatar as they had staged sit-in in front of the Prime Minister's residence demanding immediate promulgation of the interim constitution. Likewise, police had injured a number of employees of the Tribhuwan University as they protested in front of Singha Durbar demanding immediate appointment of vice chancellor. nepalnews.com sd Jan 03 07
