The UN-led joint monitoring team visited the Maoist army camps in Ilam and Sindhuli districts and took stock of the situation there on Sunday.

The 11-member team first visited the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) camp in Chulachuli, Ilam, and consulted with the PLA commanders regarding the management of arms as well as the supply of logistics in the camps.

The team that arrived by a helicopter also inquired about the condition of the camps set up for woman combatants, reports said. The team then visited the second PLA camp in Sindhuli and inspected the area where storage containers would be kept.

Meanwhile, 111 retired Gurkha soldiers, who have been selected for assisting the UN team for arms management, are being given a two-day training before being sent to the field.
