A meeting of the top leaders of the SPA and the Maoists held at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar decided to form interim parliament on the same day. The interim parliament will endorse the interim constitution.

Existing House of Representatives (HoR) will pass the interim constitution presented by the cabinet. The HoR will be replaced by the interim parliament.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC confirmed that the SPA and the Maoists agreed to issue the constitution finalised on December 16.

KC informed that there would not be any change in the provisions of the draft of the constitution except the language.

There have been demands from various quarters including the full court meeting of the Supreme Court for amendment in the interim constitution.

KC added that the meeting agreed to keep the SPA-Maoist unity.

There was also an agreement to re-establish all the displaced police posts and facilitate the return of VDC secretaries to the villages.

The meeting also asked all to present their demands in a peaceful manner as there might be infiltration of reactionary elements in protest programmes. nepalnews.com pb/rh Jan 08 07
