One rhino dead in CNP buffer zone area

A carcass of a male rhino was recovered from a community forest at Kawasoti village development committee (VDC) 9 of Nawalparasi, the area that falls inside Chitwan National Park (CNP) buffer zone area, Monday.

According to Area Forest Office Kawasoti, the horn and hoofs of the dead rhino was intact.

Officials believe that the rhino died after fighting with another rhino.

A natural characteristic of the rhino is that they get into fierce fights with each other during the mating season.

Reports quoted Purneshwor Subedi, officer at Nawalparasi District Forest Office as saying that the rhino was confirmed dead due to clash as it had many bruises on its body.

Five rhinos have died naturally while 12 others were killed by poachers within the last six-month period.

Meanwhile, one Shambhu Mahato of Baghauda VDC-6 of Chitwan died Monday in a rihno attack. According to eyewitnesses the rhino had chased Mahato for a long distance and killed him. nepalnews.com pb Jan 30 07
