However, Bir Hospital is reeling under serious financial problem to give the patients coming for treatment here high quality health service free of cost.

The hospital makes an annual income of Rs 9 crore and gets a grant of Rs 18 crore from the government.

With a view to provide top-quality health service to the hospital patients without hiking the fees, the hospital plans to finance it by starting Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery ( M.B.B.S) in the hospital soon.

However, it is surprising why M.B.B.S studies hasn't been started in the hospital where post graduate level studies in medicine is already up and running from the past some time. Some 172 doctors working in different government hospitals are currently studying here.

Having started with just nine beds, Bir Hospital currently has 458 beds. But given that large number of patients flock into this hospital for treatment since it is at the heart of the city and considered one of the biggest hospitals of the country, experts said this kind of hospital should have at least 900 beds. nepalnews.com ag July 30 07
