Only CA polls can establish durable republican order: PM
Ruling out the possibility of announcement of republican order from the parliament, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that republic established only through peaceful election to constituent assembly will be durable.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a mass meeting organised by the Nepali Congress (NC) in Birtamod, Jhapa district, Saturday afternoon. Saying that he was committed to hold the CA polls within November-end this year, Koirala claimed that CA election would bring about historic change in the country.
“All the power will go to the people after constituent assembly polls,” he said.
Koirala, who heads the NC, said he was determined to bring the party back to its pre-2000 position, a time when the party was united. He also gave direction to party leaders and workers to be active to unite the party with the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led NC (Democratic).
Addressing the mass meeting, Home Minister Krishna Situala said proportional electoral system, as demanded by the CPN (UML), would not ensure fair representation of different sections of Nepali society. “Directing voting system should be adopted for constituent assembly,” he said. nepalnews.com mk June 02 07
