Transporters warn of massive stir if demands not met
The National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs (NFNTE) on Friday warned that it would launch massive protest programmes and bring the vehicular movement across the country to a complete halt if its demands were not met within a week.
Expressing concern over lack of any security on the national highways because of which the transport entrepreneurs had to bear huge losses, the transport entrepreneurs said if their demands -- which includes distribution of compensation for victims of accidents as per agreements reached between the government and the NFNTE, declaration of the highways as a zone of peace, formulation and implementation of the Road Act – were not met then it would be very difficult for them to run their business and that they would have no other option but to go for agitation .
The transport body has also urged the government to arrest those involved in the torching of vehicles, compensate owners of the damaged vehicles and declare the transport sector a ‘failing’ industry. nepalnews.com ag June 09 07
