According to NFIN chief negotiator Dr Om Gurung, today’s meeting ended on a positive note, agreeing to resume talks at 3:00 pm Monday.

At the meeting, the NFIN team put forward its agendas including proportional electoral system and the federal structure of the state on the basis of ethnicity and region, he said.

“We explained about our agendas and the government side presented its interpretation on those agendas. We emphasised that each Janajati group should get at least one seat [in the constituent assembly],” Gurung said.

Two other government negotiators, state ministers Gyanendra Karki and Ram Chandra Yadav, were also present at the meeting held at the Peace and Reconstruction Ministry.

The NFIN had agreed to call off its two-day nationwide general strike on Sunday and Monday and became ready to sit for dialogue after the government expressed ‘commitment’ to deal with the issues raises by it.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met with NFIN representatives and assured to address the demands of indigenous nationalities through talks. nepalnews.com mk June 10 07
