Special Committee formed to debate second amendment bill

The parliament, on Tuesday, formed a 23-member special committee to carry out detailed clause-wise discussion on the Bill for Second Amendment of interim constitution.

The Committee headed by Nepali Congress (Democratic) leader Purna Bahadur Khadka includes MPs from all the major parties in the parliament.

The Committee has already initiated the debate on the second amendment bill, which includes provision of allowing parliament to abolish monarchy by two-third if the latter is found conspiring to derail Constituent Assembly elections and holding the elections by mid-December, among others.

The Committee was formed after the parliament endorsed the proposal by NC MP Ram Bahadur Bista to create it to allow detailed discussion of the bill.

The government had earlier tabled the Second Amendment Bill as per the decision of the eight parties. However, several MPs have registered over dozen amendment proposals on that bill also.

In order to carry out discussion on issues raised by the MPs, the parliament had formed the Special Committee.

The next session of the parliament will now be held on Wednesday at 4 pm.

The government and the parties have said that they want to approve the second amendment bill within June 14 since any further delay could invite constitutional crisis because the existing constitution states that CA elections shall be held by mid June. nepalnews.com sd Jun 12 07
