EC to govt: Fix poll date immediately

The Election Commission (EC) has asked the government to fix the date for constituent assembly election as soon as possible.

A team of the EC led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhoj Raj Pokharel met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at his Baluwatar residence Monday and suggested that the government set election date for the first half of Mangsir (November-end).

The EC team also asked the government to immediately address the grievances over the election process, make proper security arrangements, launch voters' education programme with the involvement of political parties and form all-party networks at the grassroots level to create an election climate.

The EC officials also expressed satisfaction over the timely passage of election-related laws.

A statement issued by the EC said Prime Minister Koirala told the EC team that the government had given top priority to CA election and assured that the election date would be fixed soon.
