Demark pledges Rs 600 million for Nepal peace

Denmark has approved Rs 600 million grant assistance to facilitate the ongoing peace process in Nepal.

The Board of the Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA) approved the grant assistance on Wednesday, a press release issued by the Danish Embassy in Kathmandu said.

“Acknowledging the challenging but positive situation in Nepal, the Board of DANIDA found it highly relevant, that Denmark over the next years provides support to a broad range of stakeholders working for peace in Nepal, as a natural consequence of Denmark’s longstanding support to the country’s democratic forces,” the embassy release said.

Speaking after the approval of Danish Peace Support Grant, Danish ambassador of to Nepal Finn Thilsted said, “Without a successful peace process there will be very limited scope for sustainable development in Nepal. Only through a fully inclusive peace process that meets the expectations of the Nepalese people will it be possible to create democracy, stability and economic growth.”

The statement further said that Denmark as a major development partner of Nepal would continue to support the efforts of all spheres of Nepalese society. nepalnews.com mk Mar 07 07
