Gyawali to attend UN Human Rights Council meeting

Culture and tourism minister Pradeep Gyawali

Pradip Gyawali, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, will leave for Geneva on Monday to attend the meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Leading the Nepali delegation at the five-day meeting, Gyawali will present Nepal's situation vis-à-vis human rights protection. He is set to brief the meeting about the improving situation of human rights in the country following the cessation of Maoist conflict.

Of late, senior UN human rights officials have been pointing at the culture of impunity prevailing in the country.

During her recent visit to Nepal, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, too, had stressed the need to arrest the culture of impunity. She said there cannot be lasting peace without justice. nepalnews.com sd Mar 12 07
