Maoists excesses on; thrash hotelier
Even after joining the parliamentary politics, Maoists have been continuing their excesses in different parts of the country.
Maoists thrashed operator of Hotel Woodlands of Durbar Marg for not giving donation as demanded by the Maoists.
Operator of the Hotel, 59-year old Hari Shrestha, was abducted from his hotel and beaten up badly for two hours after he refused to give two million rupees demanded by the Maoists, reports the Kantipur daily.
Maoists had taken Shrestha to Surya Carpet industry of Buddhanagar and beaten him up badly for two hours.
Maoists released him after making an agreement paper, which states that Shrestha will pay 10 million rupees to the Maoists and will also provide 10 rooms free of cost for the Maoist party.
In another incident, Maoists had abducted leader of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Netra Bahadur Shahi in Humla district a week ago.
He was abducted from Shreemasta village development committee of the district. Whereabouts of Shahi is still unknown.
According to his family source, Shahi had minor dispute with Maoists in a matter of re-establishing police post in the area.
In another incident, a report from Kavre said, Matrika Malla, wife of Suresh Malla, filed a complaint at police alleging the pro-Maoist Young Communist League (YCL) cadres of kidnapping her husband on Saturday evening.
According to police, Malla was guarantor when someone borrowed Rs 2.6 million from one Raju Maharjan. “Raju Maharjan, with support from YCL men, kidnapped Malla after the person who had taken the loan failed to pay installments,” the police said.
Maharjan and YCL men took Malla away when he was working at Malla Press at around 5:30 pm on Saturday, police said. YCL commander Sagar, however, denied kidnapping anyone.
In Dhangadhi, the Maoists have padlocked a rice mill owned by Nepali Congress central member Sunil Kumar Bhandari in Dhanagadhi.
In a statement, the NC has criticised the Maoists for violating the human rights of the people.
Such activities of Maoists are ongoing at a time ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists are engaged in the discussion of portfolios in the to-be-formed interim government inclusive of Maoists. nepalnews.com pb Mar 19 07
