Maoists attack police post; policemen come into contact

All the police personnel who had gone missing following a Maoist attack in a police post in mid-western Banke have come into contact.

Chief District Officer of Banke, Narendra Raj Sharma, said that five missing police personnel were released, along with four weapons, from the residence of the Maoist district member Chandra Kishor Pandey, who led the team to attack the police post.

Sharma informed that police recovered three rifles and one pistol taken into control by the Maoists. He said security agencies were yet to get back 200 rounds of bullets lost during the attack.

He also informed that additional security force had been deployed in the area and the police post was now operational.

A group of nearly 500 Maoists led by Maoist district member Pandey attacked the Sueiya police post before setting it on fire. The Maoists indiscriminately opened fire targeting the police post before taking it into control.

The Maoists have been hindering smooth operation of police posts in various parts of the country even after joining the parliamentary politics, the interim parliament and government.

The Maoist central leadership is yet to speak on the incident. nepalnews.com pb May 01 07
