Two dozen injured in APF-Maoist clash in Bardiya; curfew clamped

Over two dozen persons were injured after the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) cadres clashed with Armed Police Force (APF) in Sanoshree of Bardiya district.

Reports say group of people including freed Kamaiyas and landless people led by YCL attacked the police post demanding it be withdrawn. They were demonstrating protesting the APF's move to place policemen at a godown of the Cotton Development Committee building in Sanoshree.

Seven policemen and nine demonstrators are said to have been seriously injured. As demonstrators pelted stones and used batons, the policemen resorted to using force.

Following the violence, indefinite curfew has been imposed in Ward No 3, 4 and 5 of Sanoshree VDC from 2:00 pm. nepalnews.com mk/sd May 03 07
