NHRC team monitors journalists' agitation
A team of officials from National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) monitored the agitation by journalists and workers of Nepal 1 television, on Friday.
The team visited the channel's office in Kathmandu to monitor the 16-day old agitation.
"In the process of monitoring, the NHRC received information that journalists and workers of the channel were being denied fundamental rights entitled to workers including lack of appointment letters, non payment of salaries, lack of holiday provisions and so on," states a press release issued by the commission's media officer Bimal Babu Khatri.
The NHRC release adds that the health condition of three journalists who have started 48-hour hunger strike (from Thursday) had weakened.
The NHRC has urged the government and concerned parties to protect the fundamental and professional rights of working journalists as per the existing laws and international laws and norms of human rights. nepalnews.com sd May 04 07
