House stalled yet again
Madhesi lawmakers disrupted Monday’s parliamentary proceedings demanding immediate scrapping of the recommendation of the Election Constituency Delimitation Commission.
Speaker Subash Nemwang announced that the House had been adjourned until Wednesday after the Madhesi lawmakers gheraoed the rostrum. They said they would not allow normal business in the House unless their demands were met.
Meanwhile, the CPN (UML) boycotted today’s parliamentary proceedings complaining that the government failed to address the demands of Madhesis and Janajatis. In a letter addressed to the Speaker, UML chief whip Mahendra Pandey accused the government of going against the spirit of Janandolan-II.
Continuous efforts by Speaker Nemwang and some top leaders of the eight-party alliance have failed to bring the House back into business.
